Today is the start of Iberjoya in Madrid. The massive international fashion jewellery and accessories trade fair will run until Sunday 16th September.

JEWELLERY MEANS FASHION

"IBERJOYA will present a comprehensive exhibition committed to the idea of fashion, one that maintains a perfect balance between mass-consumer collections and exclusive items, as well as offering pieces made of innovative materials and designs that offer an alternative option within an ever-changing market. The fair will also present the latest new developments in silverware items, not to mention multiple solutions and services from related industries that can be applied to the jewellery industry.

All this within a setting designed to promote trade contacts and the exchange of information, based on a forum where professionals can discover the latest jewellery collections and try out their latest products in the most secure environment possible."

What's pretty cool is that amongst all these big brands and established names you may find some rather "familiar" pieces nestled in there. :)

Represented by Grupo Duplex will be a collection of work that will be featuring in the 2012 edition of the Contemporary Jewellery Yearbook. So if you're in the jewellery trade and you are attending the show in Madrid keep your eye out for a Jade Mellor original. Or if, like me you're somewhere less glamorous with the occasional torrent of rain hammering on the roof (like today's monsoon!), know that there is a chunk of handmade British craft that's made it out there to rep-ra-zent.

Thursday (tomorrow as I write this) will also be Iberjoya's BLOGGER'S DAY dedicated to professional bloggers in the world of fashion, jewellery, interiors and trends, which is a great way to recognise their importance in buying/trends as that is what the show is all about. Hopefully it means there will be more coverage to check out for those of us not in the thick of it too!

Twin Magazine

Really excited to be interviewed for Twin the magazine created by Becky Smith the founder of Lula magazine, and a bespoke London team picked from Vogue, Another & Harper's.
Her idea was to create something beautiful which also backed up with something more, summed up in their motto "Substance over Surface" and  materialised in their hardback limited edition covers which already separates it from other magazines.

Well it's been a bit of a stressful time in life outside the workshop recently. Now that things are a bit calmer, amidst starting to catch up with the growing list of making to do I made myself down tools for a little break.

To accompany the stack of magazines I haven't even had chance to PEEP at I needed some tasty refreshment. Alcoholic beverages are probably best left til the end of the working day (so I can keep all my fingers) but as it was spontaneously sunny I fancied a lovely cold dessert. Strawberry blancmange and vanilla icecream-yum!

Jelly Sandal Joy

Loving the fact that JELLY SANDALS are knocking about again, and reinvented in an easy to wear neutral palette rather than just a super kitsch sense. I'll admit here's a rather painful memory of a 9 year old with a  spaniel pup, radioactive algae and a brand spanking new pair of the silver glittery, variety.  Thankfully the lucky pooch survived for a long scampering life but the sparkly new shoes never made it home...

Now is the time to move on and hopefully some upcoming lakeside camping calls for something to wade out from the hot stony shore and do some scampering of my own. I've gone for a black pair and also allocated them a pair of my Panthera Leo brooches in the white marble to make them a bit more interesting for non-holiday wear because let's face it my beach time is homoeopathic in proportion. Luckily the material makes them perfect for rainy cities too. 

The brooch backs simply feed through the loop of the buckle strap before fastening with a swivel clasp, so don't need to pierce through.
