Winter Walk

It's a great time of year to get excited about the prospect of lots of exciting things that are coming up. I can report definite daffodil activity occurring and lots of sparkling sunshine despite the chill in the air. Here are some pics of the weekend. This is what I'm seeing, soon there will be pics of what I'm actually doing...

Beetlemania

...and now, as we creep through the undergrowth of the Erihsehc jungle we are privelidged to spot a very rare creature indeed...

A distant relative of the more common stag beetle "Lucanus Cervus", the prehistoric throwback COLEOPTERA REX, also known as the GARNET BEETLE due to it's jewel encrusted thorax.

This almost resulted in it's complete demise when it was hunted to the very brink of extinction by man and his lust for sparkling treasures.

Coleoptera Rex

This is the first known sighting for over seventy years, and I'm sure you are as excited as I am. We are also hoping our expedition through the unchartered sector of this secret haven will lead to more discoveries of some equally rare finds...
